My specialization is public health science, a field of social medicine. Public health science is a profound discipline that examines human health in a dynamic manner, encompassing not only individuals but also society and the environment, as well as policy studies and economics. Accordingly, there is still much that remains unknown, which has inspired me to continue research. Since joining Kyoto University, I have focused my research on epidemiological studies of key public health challenges using large-scale databases, facilitated by the recent digitization of a wide range of medical and health checkup data. As many epidemiological studies based on large-scale data are already being conducted actively in Europe and the United States, updating knowledge in this area is crucial. At the same time, however, the question always in my mind is how to convey the appeal of epidemiology and public health science to as many students as possible. Public health science is also a field ideally suited to collaboration and fusion between disciplines, so please contact me if you are interested.
